King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), in collaboration with the National Center of Meteorology’s Climate Change Center, hosted a two-day workshop focused on climate change risks, challenges, and opportunities. The event brought together 200 researchers and specialists from various Saudi government agencies and research institutions to advance national climate initiatives.

KAUST Vice-President Dr. Najah Yousef Ashry emphasized the university’s commitment to leveraging research and technology for environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation. She highlighted KAUST’s efforts to expand partnerships and foster collaboration on climate research.

Dr. Ayman Bin Salem Ghulam, CEO of the National Center of Meteorology, outlined the Climate Change Center’s alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative, aiming to enhance climate resilience, expand clean energy use, and support afforestation efforts. He also noted that the Center’s establishment was announced during the Middle East Green Initiative Summit in 2021 as part of Saudi Arabia’s leadership in global climate action.

The workshop facilitated knowledge exchange on climate science models, technological advancements, and research strategies. It also laid the groundwork for an international climate change workshop scheduled for October in Jeddah, further strengthening Saudi Arabia’s role in global climate research.
