CCC and NCM Strengthen Climate Services through 2025 Year-End Workshop

17 December, 2025

The Climate Change Center (CCC) at KAUST concluded its 2025 activities with a dedicated scientific workshop in partnership with the National Center for Meteorology (NCM), held on December 16 at NCM headquarters in Jeddah. Titled “Advancing Climate Knowledge and Services for Saudi Arabia,” the workshop brought together participants from NCM, CCC, and international collaborators to review progress and discuss priorities for strengthening national climate services.

The one-day workshop showcased CCC’s climate information systems, including high-resolution regional climate projections, subseasonal-to-seasonal forecasting, and drought monitoring tools, alongside recent assessments of climate extremes and sea level rise affecting the Kingdom. Through two technical plenary sessions, participants explored how advances in climate modeling and forecasting are enhancing early warning, preparedness, and long-term planning across key sectors.

The workshop concluded with a high-level panel discussion, centered on stakeholder feedback, usability of climate services, and future development priorities. Active dialogue with NCM participants underscored the importance of co-designing climate services, strengthening scientific collaboration, and ensuring that climate information is translated into actionable decision support for operational and policy contexts.

As a year-end milestone, the workshop reaffirmed CCC’s role as a national hub for climate science and services, supporting Saudi Vision 2030 through science-based decision support. Key outcomes included strengthened understanding of CCC’s climate products, recognition of the growing importance of extended-range forecasting and compound risk assessments, and clear recommendations to enhance science-to-decision translation, institutional trust, and long-term climate resilience planning in the Kingdom.
