The CLIMATics Research Group at KAUST celebrates the achievement of Yousaf Tatwani, an SRSI 2026 student who received one of the program’s Gold Medals for his research project conducted under the supervision of Professor Ibrahim Hoteit.
The project, titled “Using Image Inpainting to Fill Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) Gaps in the MENA Region,” explored the application of artificial intelligence to address gaps in atmospheric carbon dioxide observations across the Middle East and North Africa.
As part of the Saudi Research Science Institute (SRSI), Yousaf had the opportunity to work in a research environment at KAUST and gain hands-on experience in scientific research under the guidance of a KAUST faculty member. We thank Prof. Hoteit, Dr. H. Dasari, Mr. H. Jebari, and the CLIMATics team for their support.
For CLIMATics, the project reflects our commitment to developing the next generation of researchers while advancing the use of AI, environmental observations, and scientific modeling to better understand the Arabian Peninsula.
Congratulations to Yousaf Tatwani on this outstanding achievement!
